In regard to the challenges of documentation and preservation, dance has its own specifications and problems. These are reflected not only by companies and archives but also by contemporary artists to a degree that one could even speak of an ’archival turn’, if not the concept of turns had become dated itself. The lecture will show that the problems and tendencies of this process are paradigmatic for the broader field of performing arts and theatre in particular when considered as cultural practices.

Mitä haluttaisiin, mutta ei ole mahdollista tallentaa? Entä huominen? Nomadismin haasteet: he jotka eivät kuulu mihinkään yhteisöön tai järjestöön?

Patrick Primavesin avoin luento tiistaina 14.11.2017 10.15 – 13.00 / Open lecture by Patrick Primavesi on Tuesday 14.11.2017, at 10.15 – 13.00
Site Specific Performance between Urban Environment, Global Context and Mobile Media Technologies
Aalto-Arts, Otakaari 7 B, Espoo, 3rd floor, Hitchcock
As opposed to earlier forms of artistic and theatrical spectacles in public spaces, current intervention practices work on the quality of attention itself. Situations of gathering and dispersal are produced which encourage the participants to temporarily transform the norms of everyday behavior within the urban environment. The audio-sphere, to which almost everyone in contemporary urban culture is connected for individual entertainment and communication, is used for the imagination of different realities. The lecture will give some examples for these tendencies as a challenge also for a contemporary reflection of space, place, and performance.
Dr. Patrick Primavesi is professor of Theatre Studies at the University of Leipzig and director of the Dance Archive Leipzig. Publications on modern and contemporary theatre, dance and performance art. Present research projects focus on politics of (re-)presentation, body politics, and movement in urban space.
The lecture is a part of professor Dorita Hannah`s course Special areas of Scenography, Performative Screens but it is open for all and recommendable also for doctoral candidates.
